Exchange Learning Events
Exchange Learning are international learning opportunities for youth, teachers, parents, and professionals. It combines Workshops on own experience to try out tools and materials produced; National discussions; Field experience visits; Cross-cultural awareness.
It promotes learning through activities in national and international connections, linked to the core values of diversity and inclusion. It will provide experience of understanding each other’s perspectives in a safe environment and of listening to real needs and ensuring an appropriate response.
During the years 2024 and 2025, the partners carried out three exchange learning activities. These exchange learning were moments of inspiring connections between youth and full of insights for their lives.
1st Mobility
June 2024 | Hungary
The first exchange learning was organized by BAGázs.
The program included theoretical, practical and self-experience-based workshops that helped the participants to understand the complex approach of inclusion, especially in the context of Hungarian romanii community.
The goal of this exchange learning event was to deepen the participant’s knowledge and experience, from their attitude regarding the complex approach of social inclusion. All the workshops were based on cooperative methods where the participant’s diverse opinion and experience can create an exciting learning environment.
During the week, participants were enrolled in interactive and meaningful icebreakers, workshops and speaker-led discussions.
The activity involved a visit to two roma settlements. Bagázs works with a complex programme structure in the roma settlements of Bag and Dány. When visiting the settlements, it was important to preserve the dignity of the people living there, so the programme was organised where the people living in the settlements and Bagázs volunteers can present the work of Bagázs together. The aim of the visit was to give participants an impression of the segregated housing and to give them the opportunity to reflect on the serious social inequalities that segregated housing leads to.
There were 26 participants in total. The group was very diverse, we included teachers, students (from majority and immigrant background), youth (from majority and roma background), social workers, parents and NGO professionals.
Quoting one participant, one of the personal learning take-away was:
« How structural, institutional and individual changes have effect on each other».
2nd Mobility
October 2024 | Malta
FGHD organized the second exchange learning event.
In the Tools4Inclusion Erasmus+ project, Bagázs and ELTE from Hungary, Aproximar from Portugal and FGHD from Malta is working together on a methodology to support young people to self-organize inclusive leisure activities for children from different social backgrounds.
During this second meeting of the program, many participants joyfully reunited as long-lost friends, and it became evident that young people from diverse backgrounds were enjoying their time together immensely. This time we also had a great opportunity to welcome parents and young adult from Hungary that made the whole program much more enjoyable and brought a specific point of view into the project.
The aim of the training week was to:
- Strengthen partner collaboration: Activities included a program management meeting and partner discussions to align on goals and strategies.
- Develop and test educational tools: Workshops focused on testing communication tools, fostering inclusion (e.g., “Take a Step Forward”), and toolkit development.
- Promote cross-cultural learning: Participants engaged in activities like visiting local organizations (e.g., Agenzija Żgħażagħ) and participating in cultural experiences to enhance understanding of youth programs.
- Foster team building and inclusion: Energizers, icebreakers, and social programs supported networking and cohesion among participants.
All together we had 45 participants:
12 Portuguese
18 Hungarian
15 Maltese
The result we observed was that, despite half of the attendees (19 individuals) being their first time to attend such a learning exchange event, they show great curiosity about inclusive practices in the country and were inspired to take such learning back to their countries.
The most important thing learned during the week was to:
«understand things from a different perspective»
3rd Mobility
October 2025 | Portugal
Aproximar was responsible for organising the third exchange learning event.
The programme was suggested by Aproximar based on the progress of the project and continuation of the process for youth, and partners provided their inputs and contributions for improvement. The final programme consisted of conceptual sessions focused on communication and dissemination and practical activities in which the groups of youth had to plan and organise their T4I campaign. The programme also was built based on Portuguese youth who gave their inputs.
The purpose is to build the capacity of participants on clear, attractive and inclusive communication strategies that allow the promotion of inclusion and diversity. As learning outcomes, participants were expected to: Understand the importance of communication and the transmission of information that contributes to the creation of more tolerant and inclusive communities; Explore the various possibilities of communication channels (social media, newsletters, face-to-face events, digital platforms, etc.) that can be used to efficiently disseminate information about diversity and inclusion; Get to know dissemination techniques suitable for different target groups (students, teachers, families, community) and the best timing and formats to share this information; Understand the importance of diversifying communication messages, adapting language, channels and content to the needs and interests of each target audience. The final Outcome:Create an advertising campaign/spot to spread the message of Tools4Inclusion bring the message of inclusion and diversity to as many people as possible.
All together we had 45 participants from the three partner countries. The group was very diverse, we included teachers, students (from majority and immigrant background), youth (from majority and roma background), social workers, parents and NGO professionals.
Most participants stayed active during the week: 14 participants from Hungary, 17 from Malta and 14 from Portugal, though 2 students missed the last day. Participants were very participative during the week, engaging in the different activities proposed and commenting on each other’ s achievements, despite the inputs could be higher from a cross-cultural perspective.
